Reporting to the Imaging Nurse Director, the Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC) is accountable for facilitating excellence! in patient care delivery, providing operating efficiencies, and insuring compliance with hospital and regulatory policies and practices. She/he directs and evaluates all staff within the Clinical Service. The CNM manages patient flow and the efficient use of human, fiscal, and environmental resources. The CNC serves as a nursing resource and role model for the nursing, technical, and support staff. She/he establishes effective collaborative relations with other members of the health care teams and support service staff. She/he collaborates with Pharmacy, The Center for Quality & Safety, Materials Management, Building & Grounds, Biomedical Engineering, and all other support services to ensure that Imaging Nursing operations is equipped and properly prepared for patients. The CNC participates in hospital and unit-based Quality Improvement activities, particularly as they relate to patients in their designated services as well as leads with the Imaging Nursing Leadership grou! p staff development opportunities for staff. Establishes an environment that is patient-focused, safe, and conductive to staff development
All patient care responsibilities will be performed consistent with age-specific criteria
Assists the staff in the provision of nursing care, using, but not limited to, the philosophy of Imaging and ARIN Standards of Nursing Practice for the IR as a basis for care
Collaborates with all Imaging/IR staff, as well as referring services, anesthesiologists and others to develop and maintain standards of care
Is competent in the IR and Imaging staff nursing roles, serving as a clinical role model for the nursing staff
Assess the effectiveness of the patient care through direct observation and supervision of the staff
Resource Management
Plans daily/weekly assignments and monthly work schedule adult IR nursing personnel ensuring adequate staffing
Assigns nurses and support staff to Imaging location and specific patients taking into account knowledge an! d skills in generic and specialty competencies
Performs responsibilities related to payroll submission for Imaging Nursing
Makes decisions that support appropriate use of human, fiscal, and environmental resources for patient care
Collaborates with Imaging Nurse Director, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Resource nurses to promote consistency within the divisions, including organization of workflow under the guidance of departmental and institutional nursing practice guidelines and policies.
Manages turnover time within predetermined standards
Manages First Case start times within predetermined standards
Takes appropriate action to adjust work schedules to meet exam volume and patient and staff needs
Participates in interviews with candidates seeking placement within the Imaging Nursing practice. Leadership
Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration through effective communications and negotiations
Collaborates with Imaging nursing leadership ! to interpret and communicate to staff members all changes in standards ! of care, nursing practice activities, and Hospital and departmental policies and procedures
Investigates incidents and/or complaints and initiates action, working with the Nurse Director, Imaging Safety Office and The Center for Quality & Safety as appropriate for problem solving
Communicates and documents pertinent incidents, actions, and follow-up to the Nurse Director in a timely manner
Coordinates problem-solving activities with the staff and arranges meetings as needed
Collaborates with Imaging Nurse Director and CNS to provide input for annual performance appraisals for Imaging nursing staff with input from colleagues
Participates in Imaging staff meetings
Participates in Quality Improvement activities within Imaging
Fosters an environment where interdisciplinary collaboration related to patient care needs are paramount
Ensures a practice environment that maintains high professional standards of clinical care and conduct
Professiona! l Development
Works with Imaging Nurse Director and Clinical Nurse Specialist to ensure that staff achieve competency in generic and specialty knowledge skills
Participates in competency-based orientation for all new staff
Provides support to preceptors
Collaborates with ND and CNS to evaluates effectiveness of orientation program
Promotes professional development of staff through the Clinical Recognition Program and other appropriate mechanisms
Assists the Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Director in coordinating student nurse assignments and evaluating student performances while in IR
Applies knowledge of current and relevant issues and changes in nursing, social and medical science to improve patient care and foster staff development
Participates in and promotes professional research
Performs other related duties as directed
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
Critical thinking, the ability to multitask in fast paced pro! cedural setting
Qualifications
Current Massachusetts ! licensure as a registered nurse required
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (Required for Pediatric Imaging RNs).
Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred
3-5 years of managerial experience required
3-5 years of recent critical care or ED experience required
Working Environment
The Imaging Clinical Nurse Coordinator must have demonstrated ability to perform the following functions with and without wearing Protective Lead (vest, apron, thyroid shield with a weight range of 5-10 lbs total) and

Insert / maintain / remove urinary catheters
Insert / maintain / remove nasogastric tubes
Insert / maintain / remove peripheral intravenous catheters
Remove non-tunneled PICC catheters
Use oxygen equipment inclusive to lifting and moving canisters
Empty drains
Remove sutures/staples
Computer entry for charting
Hygiene care--brushing patients teeth, hair, shaving patient, bathing patient, other hygiene measures
Maintain sterility of needles, catheters, dressings, etc. when performing complex procedures
Set and maintaining pumps, cardiac monitors etc.
Check and record vital signs
Change dressings
