Open to U.S. Citizens DUTIES:
As the Nursing Assistant (Oral Care), you will perform assistive care for patients who require continuing assessment, redirection of behavior to achieve treatment, reassurance, supervision and specialized activities to maintain and/or improve patientÂ's le! vel of functioning. The duties of this position include but are not limited to: assisting patients perform daily oral hygiene; monitoring vital signs, patient observations for changes in condition; providing a range of dental procedures including teeth brushing with toothpaste and mouth rinse, interproximal cleaning with proxibrushes or stimudents and floss; observing and reporting complications to nursing/dental; and recording patient information including patientÂ's progress and/or response to treatment in the electronic medical record. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • U.S. citizenship.
  • English language proficiency. Employees appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d)
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GS-03 : 6 months general experience OR 1 year of education above high school with course(s) directly related to t! he occupation.

General experience is defined as any type of wo! rk that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad area of the occupation.

GS-04 : 6 months general experience and 6 months specialized experience equivalent to the GS-03 OR 2 years of education above high school with courses directly related to the occupation.

Specialized experience is defined as non-professional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical nursing or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as:

  • Providing personal nursing care such as providing pre- and post-operative care.
  • Support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus.
  • Caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting! changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement.
  • Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients.
Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated above, are not required to have general experience or any additional specialized experience to meet the qualification requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work requires regular and recurring periods of standing and walking throughout the ward. The work requires regular and recurring ability to physically control or defend against mentally ill patients.
