The Dean, who is a 12-month excluded employee, is the chief academic and administrative officer of the division of Health and Natural Sciences consisting! of the departments of Exercise and Sport Science, Nursing, Biology/Chemistry, Geo/Physical Sciences, and Mathematics. The Dean also oversees the IRB , IACUC , Responsible Conduct of Research Policies and Procedures, and training for these programs.

1. Provides leadership for and oversees the development, coordination, organization, and supervision of instructional programs in the division and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration with programs in the other academic divisions of the University

2. Coordinates planning at the strategic and operational levels in a manner that maintains and improves the overall effectiveness of the division

3. Coordinates the development of new courses, concentrations, minors, and majors as well as curricular and program modifications with department chairs and faculty

4. Initiates and oversees undergraduate and graduate program reviews and ensures that individual programs within the division achieve and m! aintain appropriate accreditation/certification

5. Wo! rks collaboratively with faculty, department chairs, graduate program and continuing education chairs and coordinators, and other administrators

6. Holds regular meetings with the department chairs, program coordinators, and faculty within the division

7. Works with academic departments in the development of budgets according to the timeline of the university, reviews proposed budgets, and makes recommendations to the Executive Vice President/Provost

8. Collaborates with the Associate VPAA and the Dean of Graduate and Continuing Education in course scheduling

9. Assures that reports, course schedules, and other written materials are submitted in a timely fashion

10.Reviews and evaluates degree and curriculum modifications, substitutions, policy waivers, independent and directed studies, and LECAP requests

11.Reviews and approves academic waivers for division departments

12.Facilitates transfer courses and transf! er program articulation development and implementation

13.Coordinates with the Dean of Graduate and Continuing Education to assure that graduate degree programs are appropriately administered and supported

14.Participates in faculty searches in collaboration with Human Resources, administers the division’s Affirmative Action activities in a manner consistent with the policies of the university, and assists in faculty retention

15.Consults with the Executive Vice President/Provost concerning the reappointment, promotion or grant of tenure to any faculty member within the division

16.Addresses personnel issues within the division in consultation with Human Resources as appropriate

17.Addresses any student issues/concerns related to academic programs within the division

18.Coordinates, strengthens, and facilitates fieldwork and internship programs and provides supportive environments for site supervisors and faculty
19.Maintains a strong presence with the professional community and ! government agencies and advisory boards as appropriate

20.Works collaboratively with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and the Director of the Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects to secure funding from external sources that support the work of the division

21.Collaborates with the Director of Assessment, department and graduate chairs and faculty to assure appropriate assessment of programs and progress in attaining outcomes

22.Works with Admissions and appropriate university staff for recruitment of students

23.Assists and collaborates in student retention efforts

24.Manages information requests for the division in coordination with the Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness

25.Assumes other duties as assigned, with or without reasonable accommodations

Minimum Qualifications:
1. An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in a field represented in the division ! or related field

2. Demonstrated record of distinguished teaching, research/scholarship, and service consistent with a tenured faculty appointment in one of the division’s academic departments or related field

3. Demonstrated accomplishments at increasing levels of administrative responsibility

4. Ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, students, other administrators, parents, K-12 personnel, and other external constituencies

5. Familiarity with national, regional and professional accreditation processes

6. Knowledge of higher education practices and trends, including but not limited to curriculum and instruction

7. Demonstrated effectiveness in program development, review and revision

8. Demonstrated commitment to Affirmative Action and institutional diversity

9. Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing with diverse constituencies

10.Personal qualities t! o include: integrity, good judgment, creativity and a sense of humo! r

Primary schedule is Monday through Friday, for a minimum of 8 hours daily with the availability to attend an array of events and meetings occuring some evenings and weekends
