Features Editor, CQR, Remote [United States]


 
Overview:
The Features Editor, CQR contributes to the strategic editorial plan through supporting CQ Researcher’s timely journalistic reports on sensitive issues in current events. This position will research and build “The Next Step”, a further reading list, for each report and serve as the first editor for the supplementary sections of each report, including Contacts, Bibliography, Discussion Questions, and Chronology, working closely with the managing editor and assistant managing editors. This position will also serve as a second editor for full reports as needed. This editor may take on the additional stretch assignment of writing one or more of the annual “Hot Topic” short updates on CQR’s most in-demand issues and/or reporting short features/sidebars to accompany in-depth reports. The editor in this role will also research and present an array of informational graphics options for each report, and write the caption, description, and underlying data for those selected so that the Production Editor can build the image and alt text. In future, the Features Editor, CQR will help develop a data strategy for CQR, while exploring collaboration with Sage Data as well as adopting new tools and the creation of interactive infographics.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Source, evaluate, and curate relevant graphics based on recent data from sources provided by the report author, publicly available governmental and scholarly data, Sage data, and commercial publishers as needed.
  • Apply a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens to make sure that data selected applies these standards wherever possible.
  • Propose a range of relevant infographics to the managing editorial team and build the descriptions and underlying data for those that are selected.
  • Source, evaluate, and curate up-to-the-minute articles and other non-duplicative resources to write The Next Step further reading list for each of the 44 annual reports.
  • Serve as first editor of the contacts, bibliography, chronology, and Discussion Questions sections.
  • In future, potentially write shorter reported pieces for the publication, such as the annual updates known as Hot Topics and/or a Short Feature/sidebar.
  • Help explore future data strategies for the brand.
Qualifications & Education:
Progressive growth within one or more related career or educational experience(s), ideally in journalism, however academic publishing and other related fields will also be considered.
  • Experience and expertise in data journalism and visualization will be considered an asset

Compensation at Sage is influenced by several factors, including but not limited to skill set, nature and level of experience, qualifications, and other relevant considerations. We anticipate the minimum full-time salary range for this position to be between $26.34/hour - $30.29/hour. Please note that the compensation details listed in U.S. role postings reflect the base salary only and do not include bonuses or benefits.
