Under indirect supervision of a RN, provides & performs a variety of clerical functions for the department including but not limited to: maintaining department files & records; coordinating the acquisition of charts & patient records; scheduling/re-scheduling & coordinating patient examinations, procedures & testing; performing the typical duties & responsibilities of a receptionist. Promotes the efficient operation of the department by arranging & coordinating the scheduling of patient care activities & maintaining supplies & equipment.
Essential Functions:
Upholds KP's Policies & Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities & applicable state, federal & local laws
Provides reception for assigned area
In conjunction w/ other departments, assists in the resolution of members' problems
Files & records physician orders accurately & timely in accordance w/ departmental policies & procedures
Assists in maintaining accurate & up-to-date medical records & enters computerized medical data from patient charts
Completes & files patient processing forms
Calls or faxes prescriptions into pharmacy
Assures accurate census by inputting admission, discharge & transfers in a timely manner
Schedules & re-schedules or cancels tests, procedures & examinations for patients
Coordinates the administrative aspects of hospitalization admission, transfer, discharge & transportation
May transport patients, equipment, supplies & laboratory specimens
Prints & distributes diagnostic reports & notifies appropriate personnel of abnormal lab results
Organizes & maintains department files, records, handbooks, manuals, committee minutes & inventory of patient education files
Collects, sorts & delivers mail
Prepares outgoing mail
Promptly answers call lights, alarms & patient requests
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum one (1) year experience within the last 3 (three) years as a Ward Clerk or clerk in a hospital/medical office setting, and/or equivalent on-the-job-training
High school graduate or equivalent
Completion of a Ward Clerk training program preferred
Possession of a current Basic Life Support (BLS) card preferred
Typing 30 WPM or as required by facility
Communicates in a clear, concise manner appropriate to the developmental stage of the patient
Demonstrated ability to communicate in English, orally & in writing w/ all medical center employees
Demonstrated ability to utilize Medical Terminology
Some positions may be posted as bilingual Spanish in order to communicate w/ Spanish-speaking members preferred
Additional Requirements:
- BLS certification required.
Notes:
- Must be able to work Pre-Op, OR and PACU for, ward clerk coverage.
- BLS certification required.
- Mon-Fri, Sat, Sun.
- Shifts may be variable due to on call status.
- Must be able to cover different shifts needed by the department.
- This is an on-call position, days and hours may vary.
