REGISTERED NURSE
JOB PURPOSE:
Utilizes the nursing process, nursing diagnoses and nursing interventions and is accountable to the patient, family and peers for delivery of optimum patient care in order that the organization can fulfill its primary mission of providing quality health care within the community. RESPONSIBILITIES: (Include, but not limited to) NURSING PROCESS AND NURSING PRACTICE: Assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements and evaluates patient and family needs to ensure the optimum care for assigned patients. Performs nursing tasks in accordance with the established standards of nursing practice in order to ensure quality of nursing care. Completes nursing assessments. Consistently initiates collaboration with others. Formulates nursing care plan. Reassesses patient needs and patients response to nursing interventions and revises nursing care plan on an ongoing basis. Consistently identifies patient and family educational needs, develops effective teaching methods and evaluates the effectiveness of the interventions. Manages time effectively as evidenced by completing assignments in a timely manner, prioritizing tasks realistically and helping others with patient and unit needs. Knowledge of medications, safely medicates patients and evaluates the effects of the medication. Consistently maintains a therapeutic nurse/patient relationship. Gives and receives feedback on patient response to treatment interventions to and from para-professionals and others members of the treatment team. Responds to medical concomitance in treatment and develops nursing interventions as appropriate. NURSING COMMUNICATION: Communicates appropriate information effectively, both verbally and in writing, in order to ensure the continuity of patient care. Maintains all required documentation in a complete, timely and accurate fashion as noted in department and unit standards including the following: initial assessments; problem identification and patient care needs; interventions identified to meet the patient's nursing care needs; patient's response to and the outcome of care provided; abilities of the patient and/or significant others to manage continuing care needs after discharge. Verbalizes patient and unit concerns in an accurate and concise manner. Presents information logically and in order of occurrence of events. Delivers verbal report noting change in patient status and the unit milieu. Communicates effectively with immediate supervisor and the multidisciplinary team. Utilizes appropriate channels of communication. LEADERSHIP AND TEAMWORK: Provides and gives cooperative and courteous service to the hospital staff, medical staff, patients, families and visitors as part of the organization's commitment to quality services. Exhibits good problem resolution and follow-through skills. Provides general and specific direction to para-professional members of the treatment team in a courteous and constructive fashion. Gives para-professional members of the treatment team information and direction on patient treatment plans so as to support the overall treatment initiative and implementation of the patient treatment plan. Serves as a professional resource to para-professional members of the treatment team to improve understanding of behavioral health and the treatment process. Gives specific and general direction to para-professional members of the treatment team on maintaining a safe positive unit milieu. Implements changes to nursing policies and procedures. Provides input to the performance evaluations of para-professional members of the treatment team. Directs and supervises LPNâs and MHTâsin all phases of nursing practice and Milieu management.
Job Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
Massachusetts Registered Nurse license with current registration required. Current CPR card.
Experience:
1+ years related experience in Behavioral Health preferred
Technical Skills:
Ability to communicate clearly through spoken words and in writing.
Age and Disability:
Must possess knowledge and skills necessary to interact compassionately and appropriately with families of the mentally ill.
Other:
The registered nurse must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/area's/department's policies and procedures.
