Job Description:
POSITION: Nursing Faculty

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Assistant Dean of Nursing

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Nursing Faculty is a creative, knowledgeable and flexible individual who provides classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction in the fundamentals of nursing for assigned courses in the Nursing program that serves a diverse student body and community. The faculty works with the program administrator and other faculty in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program; participates in college service and student advisement. The faculty is committed to inclusive excellence and diversity, and continuous professional improvement. The position reports to the Assistant Dean of N! ursing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide classroom instruction for sessions which last up to three hours. This normally requires preparation of materials, conducting lecture/discussion, for a group of up to 36 students, using a variety of instructional materials and technologies. Didactic instruction also includes exam preparation, proctoring, correcting, grading and posting of exam grades.
  • Provide laboratory instruction which includes didactic presentations, demonstrations, skill remediation and evaluation of skill competence. Lab instruction may also include preparation of equipment and materials for labs as well as securing/putting away equipment after the conclusion of the lab.
  • Provide clinical instruction for a group of up to 8 students in a clinical setting one to two days per week. Clinical instruction involves selecting appropriate client assignments, supervising and instructing students as they provide direct client care d! uring the six hour clinical day. Pre- and post-conferences are conducte! d each day. Clinical instruction includes ongoing and summative evaluation of student progress during the clinical experience. The instructor is typically on his/her feet and walking for most of the six hour day.
  • Post and conduct office hours in his/her office space as required by Article XII of the MCCC Agreement.
  • Participate fully in department, division and college meetings.
  • Participate in college service as required by Article XII of the MCCC Agreement.
  • Provide ongoing advising with assigned advisees for the purpose of course and program advisement.
  • Maintain currency in nursing and nursing education through participation in continuing education.
  • Implement all nursing program policies as well as applicable college policies.
  • Collaborate with program faculty in planning, implementation and evaluation of student experiences.
  • Collaborate with agency personnel in planning and implementing student experien! ces.
  • Orient new adjunct faculty to course and program requirements.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate the program of learning in compliance with appropriate regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
  • Utilizes high impact practices such as learning communities, capstone courses, undergraduate research, service learning and collaborative projects as part of pedagogical practices.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Masters Degree or higher in Nursing.
  • Minimum of two years of full-time experience in adult or gerontological nursing, or its equivalent, within the last five years.
  • College level clinical or classroom teaching experience in nursing.
  • Experience working with individuals of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and vary! ing physical and learning abilities.
  • Experience in collaborati! ve work environments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Teaching experience in a community college nursing program.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a variety of alternative instructional methodologies and assessment strategies.
  • An understanding and commitment to the role of the community college in higher education.
Additional Information:
The full Faculty salary range under the collective bargaining agreement is $38,464-$92,555. Starting salary for Faculty is determined by a classification system structure based on academic credentials, related experience and related licenses and certifications. Anticipated starting salary for candidates possessing both the required and preferred qualifications posted above would be between $45-$55K, but is determined by the classification system structure.
