The position of research assistant to Paola Friedrich-Medina, MD MPH has been created to support established, ongoing, and planned research projects. Dr. Friedrich-Medina’s research focuses on cancer disparities nationally and internationally. The research methodology integrates components from epidemiology, cancer outcomes, implementation research, and health services research. Multiple projects must be addressed simultaneously; therefore, the research assistant must be highly dependable,! motivated and organized. Most international projects are base! d in Latin America and therefore native and/or highly-proficient Spanish skills, willingness to travel, baseline understanding of social and cultural context, and full-time dedication are preferred.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under supervision from the principal investigator, the Research Assistant will be responsible for the following:

1) Assist team in the coordination of project-related activities (ie. surveys/interviews) at internal or external (on-site & off-site) study sites.
2) Assist with logistical needs for intervention and/or evaluation activities, such as equipment set-up, arranging food service and conference room scheduling.
3) Assist with coordination and preparation of project related meetings as requested and may be responsible for meeting minutes.
4) Assist with documentation for and communication with instit! utional review board.
5) Responsible for IRB submission activities.
6) Conduct relevant literature searches and reviews as requested.
7) Contact, recruit and enroll research participants.
8) Coordinate pilot testing of study and surveys as needed.
9) Maintain databases (including data entry) and project documentation with accuracy, as needed.
10) Maintain the security and confidentiality of all study materials and data.
11) Assist investigators with data analysis and manuscript preparation.
12) Prepare study reports and develop protocols.
13) Other project-related or administrative responsibilities as requested by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.

PATIENT CONTACT:
Not currently, but possible. All active projects use previously collected information (databases) or have clinicians and providers as the subjects or primary patient contact. However, patient contact in future studies cannot ! be excluded. If so, the population served would be children with childh! ood cancer and/or their parents.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Current valid driver's license and personal automobile for travel to study sites required

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Bachelor’s degree in public health, natural or social science required.
2) Two years of experience in public health, health policy, natural, or social science strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1) Excellent interpersonal skills, dependable, motivated and willingness to learn new tasks.
2) Good baseline computer skills and ease with learning computer-based software and programs.
3) Fluency with Microsoft Office products, particularly with regards to formatting of documents, designing worksheets, creating maintaining databases and creating and using basic formulas in Excel.
4) Fluency with Pub Med and End Note, particularly with regards to performing a literature search, or! ganizing a literature search, and creation and maintenance of reference databases.
5) Ability to relate effectively in-person and on the telephone to diverse groups of patients, community members, physicians, nurses, researchers, children and parents in Spanish and English
6) Excellent organization, prioritizing, communication and problem-solving skills.
7) Ability to work evenings, some weekends, and travel to international sites.
8) Bilingual language skills â€" fluent Spanish and English required.

Schedule

40 Hours Weekly, Monday through Friday
