Location: Cambridge Massachusetts

Description: Biogen Idec is at present looking to employ Medical Information Specialist I right now, this position will be placed in Massachusetts. This Specialist I position supports the Medical Information (MI) response center within the Global Medical Affairs organization. The primary role of Medical ! Information is to assist Health Care Providers (HCPs) with medical inquiries pertaining to our marketed or pipeline products. Daily interactions involve contact (primarily via phone and e-mail) not only with HCPs but also with Biogen Idec medical field force representatives, business service partners, and other internal work groups. Responsibilities also include documenting and coding inbound medical information requests into a CRM database, reporting adverse events (AEs) and product complaints (PCs) to our safety group. In addition, this role will be responsible for the assembly and fulfillment of appropriate standard response packages in accordance with industry standards.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in providing HCP support, have a strong attention to detail, and enjoys working in a team environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Customer support: delivery of verbal and written clinical and technical infor! mation about marketed products to internal and external stakeh! olders; intake and documentation of medical information requests, including documentation and triaging of adverse events (AEs) or product complaints as they relate to Biogen Idec products
  • Clarifying, researching and responding (via written or phone communication) to non-standard requests from HCPs across therapeutic areas.
  • Coordinate or assist in Medical Affairs Scientific Meeting booths, schedules, materials, and guidelines to ensure availability, accuracy and alignment of key product information
  • Surveillance of 3 rd party, public sources of information on products for inclusion/use in medical information resources (SRs, website)
Additional Functions:
  • Assist departmental software System Administrator with the following:
  • Maintaining documents within the Medical Information software (ie, Siebel).
  • Maintaining Medical Information Websites (eg, intranet and internet).
  • Training new users on use ! of Medical Information platforms.
  • Assist or act as liaison with corporate partners for Medical Information needs on shared product.
  • Attend/Participate in relevant Investigator or Scientific Meetings.
  • Participate in product team meetings.
  • Training Biogen Idec staff on Medical Information call center operations and appropriate use of delivery channels (phone, fax, email, web resources)
  • Oversee/manage additional departmental projects as necessary.
  • Assists in development and maintenance of departmental SOPs and training manual.
Job Demands:
  • Medical writing and proofreading skills are essential.
  • Excellent customer management and interpersonal skills, ability to complete tasks in a timely fashion, and able to function in a rapid, high-pressure environment.
  • Understand and comply with the federal and corporate regulations regarding dissemination of medical information.
  • Ab! ility to apply current knowledge of electronic tools to ensure efficien! t daily operations.
  • Ability to conduct medical literature searches (eg, PubMed).
  • Open personality, strict ethics, and analytical mind.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teamwork.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Medical writing and editing capabilities.
  • Technical proficiency in CRM or equivalent systems and with MS Office suite
  • Strong problem solving, time management/prioritization and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Comfortable working with standard operating procedures with focus on quality & compliance
  • Detail-oriented
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment
B. Preferred:
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in a customer service profession pre! ferred.
  • Neurology, immunology or hemophilia experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements preferred. Education MD, PhD, Pharm.D. preferred.
Master’s degree, in life sciences, nursing or similar qualifications will be considered.
