Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, physician investigators, and the Clinical Research Program Manager, the Research Study Nurse is responsible and accountable for assist ing in the implementation of a large-scale clinical trial at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Corrigan Minehan Heart Center. This full-time position works closely with the study team including study physicians, project manager and study coordinators.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for reviewing adjudicated ECG results from mobile screening devices on all study subjects that require notification as established in study protocols.
• Responsible for reviewing patient’s electronic medical records to determine the need to report clinically actionable results.
• Oversees study ECG adjudicators are performing study ECG reviews within specified timelines as established per protocol.
• Documents review and notification of ECG adjudicated results.
• Is responsible for adverse event monitoring and reporting; documents reportable events and other major concerns related to the study and disseminates the information to the PI, Project Manager and IRB as appropriate.
• Provides training to lower-level staff.
• May have research-specific responsibilities in Epic including ordering, documenting, and research billing review of research-related encounters.

Qualifications

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

The Research Nurse should have the following skills and competencies:

• Understanding of clinical research methodology and regulations is essential. Experience with clinical trial coordination, study monitoring and project management required. Leadership skills, good presentation and writing skills as well as, ability to lead, interact well with others, take initiative and think independently.
• Excellent communication and organiz ation skills required, with attention to detail essential.
• Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery knowledge is preferred.
• Works well with team members.
• Knowledge of hospital systems and competency in MS Office programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS:

RN from an accredited school of nursing and MA Licensure as an RN.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; new graduates must have a BSN degree.

EXPERIENCE:

Must have 3 â€" 5 years of nursing experience; Minimum of 1 - 2 years research-related experience preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

List the number of FTEs supervised. Orients and trains new staff. Supervises staff members in lower-level positions.

FISCAL R ESPONSIBILITY:

May monitor and manage study funds. Responsible for preparing invoices, and for directing, verifying, and correcting patient care charges as appropriate.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties will be performed in a research office, the Cardiac Catheterization laboratory, Cardiac Electrophysiology laboratory, Cardiac Surgery Operating Room, and other inpatient and outpatient settings.
