Nurse Manager for its General Clinical Research Unit (GCRU) located at Boston University School of Medicine. The GCRU provides support for clinical research investigation. It provides a controlled setting, 8000 sq. ft., for research patients to be seen by faculty. The nurse/manager is responsible for the nursing unit team and works with them, investigators and professionals at Boston Medical Center and School of Medicine to implement protocols within standards of good clinical practice. Nurses at the General Clinical Research Unit (GCRU) are trained to make complex research observations and take precise specimen collections. Our nurses are skilled in: Inserting intravenous lines; research methodologies and performing pharmacokinetic drug studies. Our team also includes a certified medical assistant to assist in research methodologies. These skilled clinicians are able to participate in groundbreaking research, while ensuring patients receive compassionate, quality patient ! care. The GCRU boasts a highly trained research staff of 6 peo! ple, exclusively assigned to the GCRU, who support inpatient and outpatient, adult and pediatric medical studies that discover the cause, progression, prevention, control and cure of human diseases. The GCRU has been continuously funded for more than 40 years. Research subjects participate in over 50 protocols. At Boston University Medical School, the GCRU is the operational entity and place for NIH-funded clinical researchers to conduct bench to bedside research.
